Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever?

Forever, and ever

Forever young, I want to be forever young

Do you really want to live forever?

Forever young

- Alphaville, 1984

As you move and sway to the lyrics and rhythm of this lovely song that was a favourite for many of us in the early 2000s, do you remember what it felt like to be a child? To be young(er)? Your childhood might have been filled with a multitude of pleasant memories that might have you smiling right now. You might miss the ease with which you lived in your younger years with little to no worries, responsibilities, or bills. However, it seems like everything has changed now. Life seems to be such a struggle living from one paycheck to the next. Bills keep coming in endlessly and you're wondering when it will all end.

Even as you sing along, remember that the truth of the matter is, you will not live forever, and you won't always be young. Your physical body was not designed to last infinitely and so as you age, it will grow weary and tired. You will be 20 someday, then 30 and before you know it 40, 50, 60, and boom, retirement is lurking around the corner. As you climb the ladder of your youth through adulthood and into old age, your realities would constantly change.

Your physical body was not designed to last infinitely and so as you age, it will grow weary and tired. You will be 20 someday, then 30 and before you know it 40, 50, 60, and boom, retirement is lurking around the corner.

I understand, retirement can feel like an extremely scary period. For you, what retirement looks like may be to wake up, make a cup of tea, and sit in the verandah reading the morning papers. It may also be to act as a source of direction and guidance in the lives of your loved ones. Indeed, all retirement may remind you of is boredom and complete dependence on other people.

Retirement doesn't have to be scary however, if you put the right plans in place: If you take your health as a priority now, you'd reap the massive benefits in the future. When you pay quality attention to your life relationships, when you show people in your life that you love and care for them, you'd have people to turn to and support you in your older years. As you handle your money matters wisely, as you plan your expenses, budget, save and invest, you're laying a solid foundation for your older years. For all the efforts you put into your career, into maximizing your potentials, all you're doing is ensuring you have no regrets in the future.

Retirement doesn't have to be scary however, if you put the right plans in place
